I am a worry wart so I will ask.?
I was helping a drunk friend walk home and cops came up and asked for our I.d’s ran them to see if we had warrants and let us walk home. Will I get a suprise drunk in public ticket in the mail or would they have to arrest you for something like that. I’m in CA

They’d have to have written the ticket right then and there so that you can prove that you’re not drunk.

You will not get anything they were just checking for warrants they would have arrested you for drunk in public.

I doubt it. I got thrown in a detox cell when I was 19 in Cali and they never wrote me a ticket. I never received a ticket in the mail or court date.
I wasn’t even drunk in public. We were in a car that crashed. The 3 guys went to the detox tank. The pretty blond who crashed the car was sent on her way by the cops. Oh yeah, when a female cop asks you if you have any guns on you, don’t reply by grabbing your crotch and saying, "Only this one here".

No, they would’ve issued you a citation right then. They exercised their discretion to let you go. I often do the same thing. If I have probable cause to stop someone, I probably will, just to check to see if they have warrants or weapons on them. If they’re clean, then they won’t get the ticket. If they got warrants or drugs or weapons or whatever else on them, then I will cite them for why I stopped them, and they will also be charged for the additional warrants/weapons/drugs.
